Why Major in Mathematical Sciences?

Thinking about majoring in math? Here's why you might want to do it!

If you enjoy and excel at math, pursuing a career in mathematics can lead to higher job satisfaction. There is a wide variety of lucrative career opportunities available to those who study math: Actuarial science, data science, sports analytics, programming, risk analysis, software engineering, education, etc. You’ll develop important life skills: Critical thinking, problem solving, communication, creativity, organization and study skills, and collaboration (just to name a few!) and become part of an inclusive and diverse community of exceptional students and dedicated faculty.

[Why Major in Math?]

NJIT’s Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mathematical Sciences degree offers five concentrations to choose from: 

• Applied Mathematics
• Computational Mathematics
• Mathematics of Finance and Arcturial Science
• Applied Statistics
• Mathematical Biology

There are streamlined options for double majors that combine a Mathematics degree with Physics, Biology, or Computer Science.

NJIT’s Math Department also offers a degree in Data Science - Statistics option
