Academic Recovery from Hurricane Sandy Disruption

All of us have experienced and continue to experience the many impacts of hurricane Sandy. Some NJIT students, faculty and staff members now have to address impacts so devastating that the remainder of the semester is effectively lost. Our thoughts and prayers must be with them, and we should, as friends and colleagues, continue to provide the help and support that they need to recover. For many more of us, our resources have been sorely strained but not devastated, and we continue to possess the capacity to make this semester an academic success.

 

The academic challenges are formidable. A full calendar week must be made up while many things that we generally take for granted, such as transportation and, in some cases electricity, remain problematic. The Department of Mathematical Sciences and NJIT has set in place programs and policies to help students and faculty address the academic challenges. We continue to seek ways to facilitate academic recovery. In the final analysis, however, it will be, as always, the hard work and dedication of NJIT students that make the semester a success. For those of you who retain the capacity to do the hard work that is needed to finish the semester well, I urge you to work doubly hard and reach out to your classmates that may need a little extra help. For students in common courses, the following resources can make a positive difference.
