Congratulations to Robert Miura and Roman Andrushkiw
Robert Miura has been named to the Inaugural Class of the Fellows of the American Mathematical Society. “The Fellows of the American Mathematical Society program recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics.” For more information about this award please see the news release of the AMS: http://www.ams.org/news/ams-news-releases/ams-news-releases.
Roman Andrushkiw recieved the patent “Computer-Aided Cytogenetic Method Of Cancer Diagnosis” with his collaborators Natalya Boroday, Dmitriy Klyushin and Yuriy Petunin.
Frontiers in Applied and Computational Mathematics 2013 Conference (FACM 13)
On May 31- June 2, 2013, the ninth Annual Conference on Frontiers in Applied and Computational Mathematics (FACM '13) will be held at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark, New Jersey. This conference is the tenth in a series of annual conferences that have been organized by the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Center for Applied Mathematics and Statistics at NJIT. The conference will focus on Wave Propagation and Electromagnetics, Mathematical Biology, Fluid Dynamics, and Applied Statistics.
Mathematical Problems in Industry Workshop (MPI 2012)
On June 11-15, 2012, the Twenty-Eighth Annual Mathematical Problems in Industry Workshop will be held at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark. MPI is a problem solving workshop that attracts leading applied mathematicians and scientists from universities, industry, and national laboratories. During the workshop, engineers and scientists from industry interact with the academic participants on problems of interest to their companies.
NJIT MATHEMATICS RANKED IN TOP TEN NATIONALLY: The national study of faculty productivity conducted in conjunction with the National Research Council study of doctoral programs has ranked NJIT MATHEMATICS in the TOP 10 nationally in Top Research Universities Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index for 2007, by Academic Analytics, reported on web site of The Chronicle of Higher Education. The 2007 index compiles overall institutional rankings on 375 universities that offer the Ph.D. degree.

NSF MRI Supercomputer Cluster
The Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS)
and the Center for Applied Mathematics and Statistics
(CAMS) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology,
under the auspices of the Major Research
Instrumentation (MRI) program, have acquired
a 67-node Beowulf-class computer cluster for
research in mathematical sciences. The cluster
was funded in part by a grant from the
National Science Foundation (NSF).

NJIT Baseball Guru Says Yankees, Dodgers Should Make World Series: With the League Championship Series set to begin tomorrow, NJIT Mathematics Professor Bruce Bukiet has, once again, analyzed the probability of each team winning their post-season series. NYC Street Named for NJIT Professor Emerita and Disability-Rights Advocate: A sign on the corner of 1st Avenue and East 4th Street in Manhattan was renamed at a ceremony this summer in honor of Frieda Zames, the late NJIT Associate Professor Emerita of mathematics and disability rights advocate who played a pivotal role in making the NJIT campus accessible to persons with disabilities. Zames, who taught math at NJIT for 27 years, died in 2005 at the age of 72. Her three decades of advocacy also included pushing for access to the 88th floor observatory of New York's Empire State Building, which is now accessible. September 08, 2009

NJIT Mathematicians Named First Fellows of Math Society: Two professors of mathematics at NJIT will number among the first Fellows named by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). Gregory Kriegsmann, PhD, noted for his research in applied mathematics, asymptotic methods and more, will receive the honor. So, too, will Robert M. Miura, PhD, who develops mathematical models in neuroscience. The ceremony will take place this coming July in Denver. June 11, 2009

Mathematician Foresees Tight Races in Major League Baseball's Eastern Divisions: Bruce Bukiet, an associate professor of mathematical sciences and associate dean of the College of Science and Liberal Arts at NJIT, once again provides the number of games each Major League Baseball team should win in 2009 based on the mathematical model he developed in 2000. The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels should make the playoffs in the American League (AL) in 2009 with most other teams lagging well behind. April 2, 2009
To Improve Forecasting Earthquakes, NJIT Mathematician Studies Grains: A new and better way to predict earthquakes and avalanches may soon be available to forecasters thanks to the mathematical research of Lou Kondic, PhD. NJIT Math Professor Bruce Bukiet Featured in Library's Salute to Baseball Exhibit: NJIT Mathematics Professor Bruce Bukiet, PhD is featured in the Van Houten Library's main exhibit a salute to baseball this summer. Bukiet, an avid Mets fan who is also associate dean of NJIT's College of Science and Liberal Arts, uses a mathematical model to predict Major League Baseball outcomes. July 01, 2008
