Frontiers in Applied and Computational Mathematics 2009 Conference (FACM 09):  On June 1-2, 2009, the Sixth Annual Conference on Frontiers in Applied and Computational Mathematics (FACM '09) will be held at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark, New Jersey. This conference is the sixth in a series of annual conferences that have been organized by the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Center for Applied Mathematics and Statistics at NJIT and is supported by a University Strategic Initiative. This year's conference will focus on Mathematical Biology and, in particular, have at least four sessions on mathematical neuroscience.

NJIT MATHEMATICS RANKED IN TOP TEN NATIONALLY: The national study of faculty productivity conducted in conjunction with the National Research Council study of doctoral programs has ranked NJIT MATHEMATICS in theTOP 10 nationally in Top Research Universities Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index  for 2007, by Academic Analytics, reported on web site of The Chronicle of Higher Education. The 2007 index compiles overall institutional rankings on 375 universities that offer the Ph.D. degree.

NSF Computational Science Training for Students
in the Mathematical Sciences (CSUMS) Program:
The scope of the NJIT CSUMS program is to
provide students with expertise in mathematical
modeling and scientific computation through
research and coursework.

NSF Biomath Training Program: The Undergraduate
Biology and Mathematics Training Program (UBMTP)
will educate undergraduate students in an environment
in which mathematics and biology are intimately linked
at both the curricular as well as the research level.

NSF MRI Supercomputer Cluster: 
The Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS)
and the Center for Applied Mathematics and Statistics
(CAMS) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology,
under the auspices of the Major Research Instrumentation
(MRI) program, have acquired a 67-node Beowulf-class
computer cluster for research in mathematical sciences.
The cluster was funded in part by a grant from the
National Science Foundation (NSF).

• 11/30/07--Popular Website Names NJIT Math Professor Among Top 50 in Nation for 2007:
  The popular website RateMyProfessor (RMP) has ranked Soha Abdeljaber, a university lecturer in the department of mathematical sciences at NJIT, number 45 of the 50 highest rated professors for 2007 in the nation.
  
  
• 10/11/07--NJIT Math Professor Predicts A-Rod, Sabathia, Peavy and Hanley Ramirez of Marlins To Win Baseball’s MVP and Cy Young Awards: NJIT’s Bruce Bukiet, the World Series Forecaster, is once again banging away on his keyboard, this time to name winners of Major League Baseball’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Cy Young awards for the 2007 season.
  
  
• 10/03/07--NJIT Professor Predicts Cubs and Red Sox Most Likely To Advance To League Championship Series: According to Bukiet's mathematical model, the Cubs have a 62 percent chance of advancing to the National League Championship Series, while the Red Sox have a 60 percent chance of advancing to the American League Championship Series.
  
  
• 05/09/07--NJIT To Host Fourth Annual Math Conference: NJIT will host “Frontiers in Applied and Computational Mathematics,” the fourth in a series of annual conferences that will explore recent advances in mathematical biology, mathematical fluid dynamics, biostatistics, electromagnetics/waves, and acoustics, on May 14-16 .
  
  
• 05/03/07--NJIT 2007 Graduation Fetes Famous Mathematician: Peter D. Lax, PhD, professor emeritus of mathematics at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University to Receive Honorary Degree May 17 at Continental Arena.
  
  
• 05/02/07--NJIT Students Recognized for Achievement at Annual Awards Ceremony: Michael Pallotta, a senior majoring in mathematics, received the Presidential Leadership Award yesterday from NJIT President Robert A. Altenkirch at the Highlander Student Achievement Awards ceremony. The awards recognize outstanding student leaders, student staff, campus organizations and programs as well as department and college award recipients.
  
  
• 04/02/07--NJIT Receives $3 Million NSF Grant To Improve Math, Science and Technology Education in Newark High Schools:  NJIT was awarded a five-year, $3-million National Science Foundation grant to impart and infuse computational methods and tools in a math and science context into high school classrooms in Newark. The “Computation and Communication: Promoting Research Integration in Science and Mathematics” or C2PRISM grant will place 24 Fellows—all working towards doctoral degrees in the computational sciences or mathematics— in one of three Newark public high schools and one private high school, St. Vincent’s Academy.
  
  
• 03/01/07--NJIT Math Professors write an article for the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Newsjournal:  Drs. Farzan Nadim and Amit Bose, both full professors in the department of mathematical sciences at NJIT, wrote an article for the March 2007 Edition of SIAM News (Vol. 40/No. 2) entitled Dynamics of Central Pattern Generating Networks: Locus of Control.  Read the article.
