Policies
- Closed Course Forms will not be accepted by the Department of Mathematical Sciences if other sections of the course have not reached their maximum of 30 students. The student should re-arrange their schedule to register in the section that has not reached its maximum size.
- If the upper limit has been reached in all sections of a course, an Undergraduate Student who needs the course to graduate may be given a permit to enter the closed course. In this case, the student MUST bring a note from their advisor stating that the student is graduating and that this is a required course.
- A Graduate Student who needs to take a mathematics course as a bridge course must bring a note from their graduate advisor or the admissions letter that specifies the required math course, to the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
- The completed form should only be submitted directly to the Departmental Office or faxed to: 973-596-5591 DURING THE WEEK PRIOR to the start of each semester.
- For Spring 2008 semester, closed course forms may be submitted ONLY on
JANUARY 14-15, 2008.
- For Summer 2008 semester, closed course forms may be submitted ONLY on
MAY 22-23, 2008.
- For Fall 2008 semester, closed course forms may be submitted ONLY on
AUGUST 25-27, 2008.
Registration Procedures
- To enter a closed Mathematics course, students must fill out the Mathematical Sciences’ Closed Course Form and submit it for approval. This Form can be obtained from the Department of Mathematical Sciences Office located in 606 Cullimore Hall – OR – downloaded from the Departmental website: Closed Course Request (PDF 6.42KB)
All required information on the Form must be filled out, legible, and ACCURATE.
NOTE: The Form asks for at least two (2) sections of the course to be listed (if available or possible) but, the more sections listed will increase the chances of getting into this course.
-
The Department will review the Closed Course Form. If approved, an “electronic permit to enroll in the course” will be issued. “Electronic permits” are placed directly into NJIT’s computer system allowing the student to override the Closed Course status. Students need to then go on-line and attempt to register for the requested course(s). THE DEPT. OF MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES CANNOT REGISTER A STUDENT FOR A COURSE.
If all choices have been exhausted and the Course status remains closed, the permit may be pending or may have been denied. In these cases, the student should come to the Math Departmental Office between 10:00am – 12:00pm to obtain the reason why permission is pending or was not granted ONLY on the following days:
- For Spring 2008 semester, students may report to the Math Office ONLY on JANUARY 18, 2008 to obtain the reason.
- For Summer 2008 semester, students may report to the Math Office ONLY on MAY 23, 2008 to obtain the reason.
- For Fall 2008 semester, students may report to the Math Office ONLY on AUGUST 29, 2008 to obtain the reason.
