Transfer Credits

Transfer Credit Advisement

Incoming transfer students and NJIT students who wish to take a class at a different college or university must see the Mathematical Sciences’ Transfer Credit Advisor Dr. Petronije Milojevic.

Although walk-in appointments are available, it is recommended that students email Dr. Milojevic prior to their visit.  By doing so, students can be instructed to bring all necessary materials that need to be reviewed.

TRANSFER POLICY:

A student is eligible to take courses at community colleges in the summer if the following conditions are met:

  • The student provides the DMS transfer credit advisor with a syllabus of the course, demonstrating that the course is equivalent to its NJIT counterpart unless the course is included in the list of courses already approved by DMS.
  • As per the NJIT catalog posted at: http://catalog.njit.edu/undergraduate/frontmatter/academicpoliciesproc.php, courses taken in place of Math 111, 112, 113, 114  need to have a duration of at least eight weeks.  The student has to provide documentation to the DMS transfer credit advisor, indicating the duration of the course.
  • The student has a grade of C or higher in the course prerequisite (the approval, if given prior to the completion of the prerequisite, is conditional on the C or higher grade and is void if a D, F, or W is earned in the prerequisite course).
  • The student earns the grade of D in a math class in the spring semester.   The student can then repeat the class in the summer at a community college or at NJIT.  The student will not be able to take the subsequent math course at any institution, unless a grade of C or higher is earned on the prerequisite course.

 In Addition:

  • A student who has previously taken a course at NJIT and withdrew or failed cannot take the same course at a community college in the summer; this course has to be retaken and completed at NJIT.
  • If students do not have a signed approval form prior to taking a course at a community college, the course will not transfer, even if it is successfully completed.
  • No approvals will be issued for distance learning courses.
